The trade-off used to be quality; in 2026 that gap has closed considerably for HD-grade panels, and OLED replacements from reputable workshops are visually indistinguishable from new.

Prices apply to walk-in repairs at our Golders Green workshop and include parts, labour, calibration, and a 30-day warranty on parts and workmanship, plus a lifetime warranty on the new panel against display defects (dead pixels, backlight failure or ghost-touch from the new panel itself). They do not include other concurrent repairs — if you’ve also damaged the back glass or battery, those are quoted separately and almost always at a discount when bundled.

What determines the price of an iPhone screen replacement?

1. Panel type — LCD, OLED or hard OLED

iPhone 8, XR, 11, SE 2020 and SE 2022 use an LCD panel — the cheapest screens to source and replace, which is why these models tend to come in under £45. From the iPhone X onwards (except the LCD models above), every iPhone uses an OLED panel. Pro and Pro Max models from the iPhone 13 onwards use a “hard OLED” with ProMotion 120 Hz refresh, which is more expensive to source.

2. Model age and parts supply

Counter-intuitively, very old iPhones can be slightly more expensive to repair than mid-range models because the parts are no longer manufactured in volume. The cheapest screens in our price list are the iPhone 8, SE 2020 and SE 2022 — still in plentiful supply. Anything older than the iPhone 8 (the 7, 6s, 6) is becoming harder to source and prices reflect that.

3. Display features the replacement has to preserve

The iPhone 14 Pro and onwards have Dynamic Island, Always-On Display, and a Face ID dot projector embedded in the top of the panel. A proper screen replacement transfers the original Face ID hardware to the new screen rather than discarding it — that’s why a reputable repair preserves Face ID while a cheap third-party one often doesn’t. Same applies to True Tone calibration: the replacement panel has to be paired and calibrated, not just slotted in.

4. Whether the digitiser is damaged underneath

A drop that “only” cracks the front glass almost always damages the digitiser layer underneath. Even if touch still works, there may be ghost-touches across one part of the screen. We always test before quoting — about 70% of cracked iPhones we see need a full panel swap, the rest can sometimes get away with a digitiser-only repair at a small discount.

HD vs OLED — which iPhone screen should you choose?

From the iPhone 13 Pro onwards we stock two panel grades for each Pro model. Both are perfect-fit replacements that preserve Face ID, True Tone and full touch. The differences:

• HD panel — uses a high-quality LCD or low-grade OLED. Brightness peaks at around 600–800 nits, contrast is excellent but not OLED-deep, Always-On Display still works on supported models. Cheaper by £30–£50. Indistinguishable from OLED in normal indoor use; the difference only shows up watching HDR video or using the phone in bright sunlight.
• OLED panel — closest match to factory. 1,000-nit typical brightness, 2,000-nit peak in HDR, true blacks, full ProMotion 120 Hz, full Always-On Display behaviour. Worth the extra £30–£50 if you regularly watch HDR video, use the phone outdoors a lot, or simply want the same experience as new.

About 60% of our customers choose HD; the rest go for OLED. There’s no wrong answer — both come with the same warranty.

How does this compare to Apple’s official repair pricing?

Apple’s out-of-warranty iPhone screen replacement is significantly more expensive across every model. Approximate 2026 UK pricing from Apple’s own support page:

Apple’s pricing includes genuine Apple parts and a 90-day Apple warranty. Our pricing uses high-quality OEM-spec or genuine-grade replacement panels with a 30-day workmanship warranty plus lifetime cover on the new panel against display defects. When does an AppleCare+ claim make sense?

If your iPhone is covered by AppleCare+, a screen replacement is £25 in 2026 — by far the cheapest option if you have it. AppleCare+ runs £8.99–£14.99 per month or a one-time £179 fee for two years, depending on model. Worth it if:

• You have a Pro or Pro Max model worth £1,000+ and you actually use a glass case (not a slim shell).
• You drop your phone more than once a year on average.
• You’re inside the first two years of ownership.

Not worth it if you have an older iPhone, you’ve already paid for AppleCare+ once and never claimed, or your phone is past the two-year coverage window. In those cases a high-street repair specialist is the better economics.

• iPhone 8 through 11 Pro Max: 30 minutes typical, while you wait.

Why are iPhone Pro screens more expensive than non-Pro?

The Pro models use a ProMotion 120 Hz hard-OLED panel with embedded Always-On Display circuitry, the Dynamic Island cutout, and a more complex Face ID assembly. The Pro Max panels are larger again. Parts cost roughly tracks size and feature complexity.

Will Face ID still work after a third-party screen replacement?

Yes if the repair is done properly. The Face ID dot projector, flood illuminator and ambient sensor sit at the top of the original screen and have to be carefully transferred to the new panel. Reputable workshops do this as standard; cut-price repairs sometimes skip it, which is why some third-party-repaired iPhones lose Face ID. Always ask the repairer to confirm Face ID will work before you book.

Will my iPhone show a “Genuine Apple Display” warning after a third-party screen?

Apple does flash a one-time notification on iOS 17 and later when it detects a non-Apple display, but it dismisses after 4 days and the phone works normally afterwards. The warning has no impact on day-to-day use or Face ID. It does not appear if the replacement panel is genuine-grade (some of our OLED replacements suppress it; HD panels generally do not).
